In today’s society people hang “bling” around their necks, off of their ears, and in some cases in their mouths. , but have you ever thought about some bling for your ceiling fan…..ya you know that thing that keeps you cool during the hot summer months.  Come on give it some bling….well lets see.

A new concept in ceiling fan controls that has recently been utilized by most ceiling fan companies has been the radio frequency wall control. Wall controls now are running on a radio frequency control which allows the user to install a fan anywhere in a home without having to run a third wire to that ceiling fan in order to operate it.  Pretty cool huh? Its no lie, technology knows no bounds.  With this new technology the have actually made remote controls so you can adjust your ceiling fan to whatever speed is sought after.

The way it works is as simple as your garage door opener, here lets explain what is meant by that.

First  you have a modest receiver that hides up inside the canopy of the fan.  Secondly, you’ll   have a  wall control that replaces your current switch and sends  out a radio signal to the receiver.  This new technology is known as z-wave technology.  There are many new products that will be able to be controlled by the same technology.   In the future they say that you will be able to get remote access to control you fireplace, ceiling fan, lights, and thermostat all from one remote, regardless if they are different brands.  It is based off this z-wave technology….pretty cool

Anyway let’s not digress….This makes replacing a light with a fan super easy.  You won’t even have to pay an electrician “arm-and-a-leg” to run an extra wire for a much needed ceiling fans.

This will save both with time and money on simple facelifts throughout your home . If you are looking to replace a light fixture with a ceiling fan just be sure to buy the fan and receiver if it doesn’t already come with it. Many fans now come pre-packaged or uni-pack with everything you need including a control and receiver but if not you can always pay a little bit more for it which will keep you from having to bother with using pull chain to control your fan.

You need to do some planning for your new deck or patio to save you time and money. Before jumping right in and buying outdoor wood furniture for your new outdoor living area, here are some questions to ask yourself to determine the best furniture and accessories to make your new space perfect for what you need:

1.  What are you going to use your new deck or patio for? Will you be having a lot of family functions like birthdays, anniversaries or, will you be entertaining co-workers or existing or future customers? You will need to plan your space differently for these different types of functions. If you host family events and work-related events, you should plan your space for the work-related events.

2.  How much space do you need? What type of entertaining do you plan to do? Do you have a large family? If so, you will need a large area. For work-related entertainment, possibly you need a large area but you need to have your area divided into separate sections, like different tiers on a deck or a patio with a separate deck area.

3.  What part of the country do you live in? The answer to this question will also play a big part in your outdoor living area design. If you live in the south where it is hot, you will need to plan some protection for your deck or patio from the elements. If you have a western exposure where your patio or deck is, you will need to protect it from the sun.
Determine your budget for this expense.

To save money, you might want to choose patio umbrellas or a pergola. If you need complete protection from the rain, you may want to consider pricing a roof for your patio. If you do decide to put a roof over your area, you may want to put in a skylight or two to bring the sunlight in without the heat. You may also want to put in an outdoor ceiling fan to keep the air circulating.

4.  What type of outdoor furniture do you like? You have many types to choose from. If you want completely care-free furniture, you may want to price outdoor wicker. If you host work-related functions, you may want consider teak patio furniture. If you plan on hosting just family events, you will want to choose furniture that cleans up easily, as children do once in a while spill things.

5.  What kind of plants will you put in your outdoor area? Do you have an area to plant alongside your deck or patio? If not, you may want to consider creating a container garden for your outdoor space. If you area is totally shaded, you will want to look for Impatiens or Dichondra.  If you have a lot of sun on part of your deck or patio, you may want to choose Sedge (Carex siderosticha ‘Variegata’), Kale (Brassica oleracea ‘Osaka’), Verbena ‘Tuscany Violet with Eye or Coral bells (Heuchera ‘Pewter Moon’).

6.  Do you want to have a focal point for your new outdoor living space? Will you use a water fountain, statute, or combine the fountain or the statute with your container garden? Whatever you choose, this should be something unique and should compliment your outdoor area.

If you answer these questions before you buy anything for your new patio or deck, you will save yourself a lot of time and money. It is always good to plan ahead.
